Embroidery hoop size chart
The Janome Memory Craft 500E stitches a maximum embroidery field of 7.9 x 11 inches (200 x 280 mm). Embroidery-only, and it ships with four hoops. Janome names hoops by their field in centimeters, so the SQ20b really is 20 cm square.

Checked against the field in either orientation, with the design sizes embroiderers usually quote. A design that fills the field edge to edge needs a size down or the next machine up, because you still want room for a basting box and for nudging placement.
The field of each hoop, as Janome publishes it. Use the smallest hoop the design fits; a hoop close to the design's size holds the fabric tighter.

Not a finished cap. The Memory Craft 500E is a single-needle flatbed machine with no cap frame, so a hat has to be stitched flat before assembly or hooped as a flat panel. Cap frames are a multi-needle feature.
Only by splitting it in software and re-hooping between sections, lining them up with alignment stitches. It works, and every re-hoop is a chance for the sections to land slightly off. For paid work, quote designs that fit the field in one hooping, and price a split job for the extra handling.
